Booking and release process
After arrival, booking takes one to three hours: fingerprints, photographs, a property inventory, and a check for warrants or holds from other agencies. For many charges the jail uses a bond schedule, so bail can be posted as soon as booking is done. For others the person waits for an initial appearance in Converse County Circuit Court, usually the next business day, where the judge sets bond and conditions.
Finding someone in custody
The Sheriff's Office publishes an online inmate roster. It lists current inmates and, once booking is finished, the charges and the bond amount and type. The roster can lag arrival by a few hours.
Bond types at Converse County Detention Center
- Cash or surety: a licensed bail agent can post it. This is what Bail City does, for a premium of 10%–20% with plans as low as 1% down.
- Cash only: the full amount must be paid to the jail or court by cash, cashier's check, or money order.
- Personal recognizance (PR): released on a signature with no money posted.
- Property bond: real estate pledged through the court.
After bond is posted
Our agent delivers the bond to the jail in person. Release typically follows within one to four hours depending on how busy booking is. The defendant leaves with a court date and must appear at every hearing in Converse County Circuit Court or 8th Judicial District Court.
